Mobility Rollators

Mobility rollators are great walking aids – they are also known as mobility walkers and wheeled walkers. They greatly assist individuals who have limited mobility or have difficulty in travelling from one place to another. The majority available are often lightweight and convenient, with folding rollators becoming more popular every day.

A mobility rollators primary function is to assist the individual with walking mobility . It typically has four wheels with the front two wheels rotating to make turning easier, brakes, a seat, and often a basket or tray. It is used for patients who need a walker only for balance but not for weight-bearing. It is easier to propel than the rolling walker or zimmer type framed product. It is also easy to manoeuvre around turns and typically does not need to be lifted when turning. The seat is helpful for resting at any point during the mobilisation. The carry basket or tray is a useful feature that allows the user to carry small lightweight items hands-free. We recommend that 3 wheeled rollators are only used indoors as they are not as stable when mobilising but can be effective when space in the home is limited. We would recommend our 4 wheel walkers as a more stable option.

Considerations prior to choosing a mobility rollator are a patients height, weight and lifting capability. Do you require the walker to fold? Can you control the brakes and the wheels of the walker? Do you require a seat or a tray on the rollator? Are you using the rollator inside the home or outside too?
