Pressure relief care is one of the most important issues when it comes to preventing pressure ulcers in patients who are bedridden or have poor mobility.
Airflow mattresses or pressure mattresses are more protective for the most vulnerable patients who are at extremely high risk of developing pressure ulcers or already have them. More complex than a regular mattress, these airflow mattresses use alternating air cells to relieve pressure. This is done by supporting the patient's weight on an inflated cell while every second air cell is deflated to provide support and pressure relief in specific regions of the patient's body.
